Imagine if Ian Curtis and Bradford Cox were BFF's!

Here's a couple rad tracks - one from Joy Division lead by Ian Curtis and the another from Bradford Cox solo project entitled Atlas Sound.

Album Review: Kid Cudi - Man On The Moon II: The Legend of Mr. Rager

It is fitting that Scott Mescudi named his sophomore album a sequel to his debut "Man on the Moon."  This album is as good as your average sequel and underwhelms as it rounds each corner.  The best thing about "The Legend of Mr. Rager" is it's melodic use of noise to build atmosphere when the lyrical content of the songs fail to stand out.  I waited anxiously to hear the St. Vincent collaboration to find that it was a weak attempt to sample.  Maybe with repeat listens I will appreciate this album more, but for now I am going to have to give Kid Cudi's "Man On The Moon II: The Legend of Mr. Rager" 2 out of 5.  Attached are some tracks that I thought stood out.

Album Review: Deerhunter - Halcyon Digest

The first time I saw Deerhunter was right after they released their self titled debut album.  Atlas Sound opened for Deerhunter on that night.  Bradford Cox took the stage and drank Theraflu between songs.  Between sets I gave him a poem I wrote and got a free CD and T-shirt.  I don't have either of those things anymore, but Halcyon Digest gets me close.  The album starts off and finishes with images and feelings of fleeting shoegaze memories.  The highlights for me is during that meandering stretch of guitar solo in "Desire Lines" and the whistling horns that sound off in "Coronado."  Each repeated listen to Halycon Digest gets me one step closer to reliving a memory and shows how the band has evolved.  I love this album and give it 5 stars.

PS. Could who ever stole my Deerhunter shirt please give it back?

Album Review: Kurt Vile's God is Saying This to You...

Listened through "God is Saying This to You..." today while searching for garbage cans with the lady friend (it's a long boring story involving a slew of ex-roomies).  I found it super enjoyable due to the mix of ambient guitar riffs mixed with ramblings about friends and not being able to come.  Pardon my exclusion of the more minimal tracks where strumming guitars meet celestial noise.  If you're into that sort of composition I'd recommend you listen through Kurt Vile's 2009 album.  All in all I rate this album three solid stars out of five.  I liked it and it had some songs I wanted to revisit and was all packaged in a 28 minute experience.

It's so hard to stay culturally relevant while working the 9 to 5, but I try!

Here's a little track scored by my lady friend entitled "Peace Frog." It's super groovey and then here's a track from the Adult Swim Singles project entitled "You and I."  Now it's time for me to be washed out the door.  Ciao mein!
